Message Your Team in Team Chat
For Admin, Office admin, Instructor, Student
Team Chat is messaging built into Sky Schedule. Use channels for group conversations, direct messages for one-to-one, and threads to keep side conversations tidy. Open Team Chat near the bottom of the sidebar. A dot next to it means you have unread messages.
Channels
Every school starts with four channels:
- General: everyone at the school.
- Instructors: admins and instructors.
- Customers: admins and customers.
- Admins: the office channel. Instructors can see it unless the school turns that off.
What each person sees depends on your school's Team Chat settings. By default, customers see General and Customers. See Control Who Can Use Team Chat.
Create a channel
- Under Channels, click Add channels.
- Enter a Channel name, such as Dispatch.
- Under Add people, check who should be in it. Filter by Instructors or Customers to find people faster.
- Click Create Channel.
Channels you create are private: only the people in them can see them. Admins can always create channels. Instructors and customers can when the school allows it.
Direct messages
Under Direct messages, click a person to message them. A green dot means they're online now. Click Show more to see everyone.
Write a message
- Type in the Message box at the bottom of the channel.
- Use the toolbar for bold, italic, lists, and links.
- Click Attach to upload an image or a PDF (PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, or PDF up to 50 MB), or Emoji to add one.
- Press Enter or click send.
Mention someone
Type @ (or click Mention) and pick a name. In a channel you can also pick @everyone.
Reply, react, edit, and delete
- Hover a message to react with an emoji or click Reply to start a thread under it. Threads at the top of the Team Chat sidebar lists every thread you can see.
- Open Message options on your own message to Edit or Delete it.
- Admins and instructors can delete anyone's message.
Ask Arlo in a channel
Admins and instructors can type @Arlo and a question in any channel or direct message, such as "@Arlo who's flying N123AB tomorrow?" Arlo answers in the channel using your school's live data and the recent messages. The other assistants in the @ menu and under Apps in the Team Chat sidebar answer the same way, through Arlo.
Customers can't mention AI assistants. AI replies are limited per person per day. See What Arlo Can and Can't Do.
Email a message to everyone
When Team Chat emails is on in Settings > Email, admins and instructors see Send email under their own messages. Click it, check Customers, Instructors, or Admins under Send to, and click Send email. Each person with an email on file gets the message.
Troubleshooting
- I don't see Team Chat in the sidebar. Your school turned it off for your role.
- "Your school has restricted direct messages with this person." Your school limits who you can message directly. Message them in a channel instead.
- A file won't attach. Use PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, or PDF, and keep it under 50 MB.
