Add Complete and Checkout Fields

For Admin, Office admin

Sky Schedule records the Hobbs and Tach readings and flight hours on every flight. If your school also tracks something else, such as fuel used or oil added, add it as a custom field. There are two places to add fields:

  • Complete Fields show on Complete Flight, when the flight comes back.
  • Checkout Fields show on Review & Dispatch, when the flight checks out.

Custom fields from both also appear as columns in Reports on the Sheet view.

Add a field to Complete Flight

  1. Open Settings from the profile menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Complete Fields.
  2. The preview shows the built-in fields that are always there: Hobbs Out, Hobbs In, Tach Out, Tach In, Flight Hours, Flight Instruction, and Ground Instruction.
  3. Click Add Custom Field.
  4. Enter a Field label, such as Fuel used (gal).
  5. Choose the Type: Text or Number.
  6. Click Add Field.
  7. To make the field required, turn on its switch. Complete Flight won't finish until the field has a value. Zero counts as a value.
  8. Click Save Changes in the bar at the bottom.

Add a field to check-out

  1. In Settings, choose Checkout Fields. Hobbs Out and Tach Out stay as they are.
  2. Click Add Custom Field.
  3. Enter a Field label, such as Oil quantity, and choose Text or Number.
  4. Click Add Field, then Save Changes.

Edit or remove a field

Click the pencil next to a field to rename it or change its type, or the trash can to remove it. Then click Save Changes. To throw away edits you haven't saved, click Discard in the bar at the bottom.

Where the fields show

  • Web: on Complete Flight and on Review & Dispatch for every flight.
  • iPhone and iPad: complete fields appear under Additional fields on the Complete Flight screen.
  • Reports: one column per custom field on the Sheet view.

Tips

  • Use Number for amounts, like gallons or quarts. Use Text for short notes.
  • Put the unit in the label, such as Fuel used (gal), so everyone enters the same thing.
  • Only make a field required if every flight really needs it. A required field stops pilots from completing flights from the ramp until they fill it in.

Troubleshooting

  • You have unsaved changes. Click Save Changes, or Discard to drop them.
  • Add Field stays gray. Enter a Field label first.
  • A new field doesn't show on a flight that's already open. Close the window and open it again.
