Run an AI Preflight Check

For Admin, Office admin, Instructor

The Preflight Check pulls everything that matters for one flight into a single dispatch report: weather, a flight risk score, the aircraft's open squawks and inspections, and any documents or requirements the people on the flight are missing. It's a second set of eyes for the front desk and instructors. The pilot in command still makes the go or no-go call.

Run a preflight check

  1. Open Schedule and click the reservation.
  2. Click Preflight Check. If one has already been run for this flight, the button says View Preflight.
  3. Wait a few seconds while the report is built.

If a saved report is more than a few minutes old, Sky Schedule refreshes it in the background when you open it, so new documents and weather show up.

What's in the report

  • Status: green Clear to dispatch, orange Review before dispatch, or red, meaning hold until items are resolved. An open grounding squawk or grounding work order on the aircraft always makes it red.
  • FRAT: a flight risk score. Points come from things like a grounding or open squawk, active work orders, an overdue inspection, expired or expiring documents, missing requirements, marginal or below-minimums weather, a student solo, and a night flight. A CFI on board lowers the score.
  • Summary: a plain-English write-up of the flight and what needs attention.
  • Flight: customer, instructor, aircraft, Hobbs and Tach, route, and end time.
  • Squawks & maintenance: open squawks and active work orders on the aircraft.
  • Aircraft requirements, Documents, and Inspections: what's on file, what's expired, and what's due.
  • Intelligence detail: Weather (the METAR and flight category), Flight risk (each risk factor and its points), and Estimated revenue (the expected invoice lines for the flight).

After the review

  • Click Verify Flight to record that you reviewed the report. It saves your name and the time on the reservation. The button then shows Verified.
  • Click Save PDF to download a copy of the report.
  • Click Back to return to the reservation and click Check Out when you're ready. See Check Out and Complete a Flight.

Tips

  • Fix what you can before the student arrives: verify an uploaded document, resolve a squawk, or swap aircraft.
  • Missing requirements are flagged, not enforced. Staff decide whether the flight goes.

Troubleshooting

  • Preflight Check is grayed out. The reservation is canceled.
  • "Preflight report is stale." Click Regenerate to build a fresh report.
  • No weather in the report. Set your Home airport (ICAO) in Settings > Organization.
  • Status is red but the aircraft looks fine. Check Squawks & maintenance for an open grounding squawk or grounding work order. It stays red until that work is resolved or completed. See Create and Complete a Work Order.
