Create a Flight Replay Video

Flight Replay turns a completed flight's ADS-B track into a short 3D video of the airplane flying the route. It's a good debrief tool for pattern work and cross-countries, and a keepsake students like to share.

Before you start

• The flight must be completed in Sky Schedule, and the aircraft must have been broadcasting ADS-B.
• Schools with the Flight Tracking add-on can replay any flight. Without it, your school gets a few free flight track look-ups per day.
• Flight Replay is on the web app. It isn't in the iOS app.

Make a replay

1. Open Flights in the sidebar and click the completed flight.
2. On the map toolbar, click Flight Replay.
3. Wait while the flight loads. The Flight Replay window shows a 3D video of the flight from its ADS-B track.
4. Adjust the video:
   • Format: 9:16 for phone stories, 1:1 square, or 16:9 wide.
   • Length: 30s, 45s, or 60s.
   • Map: Satellite or 3D map.
   • Light: Day, Dusk, Night, or Dawn.
5. Click Play to preview it, or use Full Screen.

Download or email the video

• Download Video renders the video in your browser and saves it to your computer. Keep the tab in front while it renders.
• Email Video sends it to the student. In Email Flight Replay, check the recipient and click Render and Send. The video is made in your browser and attached as an MP4. Nothing is saved on Sky Schedule.

Students can open Flight Replay on their own completed flights from their Flights page.

Tips

• Use the replay in the debrief to talk through the pattern, altitudes, and ground track before you log the lesson. See Log a Lesson and Grade Steps.
• Pick 9:16 when the student wants to post it from a phone.

Troubleshooting

• "We couldn't find an ADS-B track for this flight." The aircraft may not have been broadcasting, or the flight wasn't picked up. There's nothing to replay.
• "This flight's ADS-B track is too short to replay." Very short flights don't have enough track points.
• "Flight tracks are busy right now." Try again in a few minutes.
• Download Video is grayed out. Your browser can't record video. Try Chrome or Safari.
• "This customer has no email address." Add an email to their profile, then send again.
