Track Aircraft Inspections and Due Dates
For Admin, Instructor
Sky Schedule tracks each aircraft's inspections and recurring items, like the annual, 100-hour, oil changes, or ELT checks, against a date or a meter. It warns you before they come due and flags overdue ones on the schedule and in the preflight check.
Add an inspection
- Open Aircraft and click Manage Aircraft on the aircraft.
- In the Database section, click Add to Database and choose Inspection or reminder.
- Enter the Item, such as 100-hour or Annual Inspection.
- Under Due by, choose Due date, Hobbs, or Tach. Schools that track airtime can also choose Airtime.
- For a date, set the Due date. For a meter, enter the reading it's due at. The current reading is shown underneath so you can check your math.
- For an hourly item that repeats, enter Due every (hours), such as 50 or 100.
- Add an Attachment (optional), such as the last logbook entry.
- Click Save Inspection.
Read the status
Each inspection shows a status:
- Current: more than 15 days or 10 hours away.
- Due Soon: within 15 days or 10 hours.
- Overdue: past the date or meter reading.
For meter-based items, keep the aircraft's current Hobbs and Tach up to date. Completing flights does this for you.
To see every aircraft at once, open Maintenance and use the Inspections tab, or check Fleet Status for each aircraft's next inspection.
Mark an inspection complete
- Click the inspection to open Inspection details.
- Click Mark Complete.
- Under Record by, choose how you're recording it, then enter the Completion date or the meter reading at completion.
- Click Mark complete.
Sky Schedule opens the next one for you in two cases:
- Hourly items: when the item has Due every (hours) or an hour count in its name, like 100-hour, record completion by that meter. The next one opens that many hours after your reading. Completing by date alone won't open it.
- Annual Inspection: an item with exactly that name opens the next one due at the end of the 12th calendar month after completion, matching 14 CFR 91.409.
For other date-based items, click Edit on the inspection to set the next due date.
If the work was done on a work order, you can complete the inspection from the work order instead. See Create and Complete a Work Order.
Stop flights on overdue aircraft
By default, an overdue inspection is a warning. To enforce it, turn on Block overdue aircraft in Settings > Scheduling and choose Block booking or Allow booking, block check-out / check-in. Use Configure to choose which activity types it applies to. Due-soon items never block. See Set Up Activity Types and Booking Rules.
Tips
- Moving from another tracker? Import inspection reminders under Settings > Migration > Inspections.
- Use Export PDF in Inspection details for a copy of one inspection's record.
Troubleshooting
- Status is blank on a meter-based item. Set the aircraft's current reading in Meters.
- The next 100-hour didn't appear. It was completed by date. Enter Due every (hours) and record completion by Hobbs or Tach.
