See ADS-B Flight Tracks and Live Flights
For Admin, Office admin, Instructor
Sky Schedule matches a completed flight to its ADS-B flight track by tail number and date and draws the actual path on the map. You can check where the aircraft really went, look at the altitude profile, replay the track, and see which of your aircraft are in the air right now.
See a flight's track
- Open Flights and click a completed flight.
- The track loads on its own and draws over the planned route.
- Use the controls at the top left of the map:
- The map style and track color menus.
- Altitude profile to see the flight from the side, and Flat track to go back.
- Replay flight to animate the track. Click the speed button to replay faster, and Pause replay to stop.
To turn the track into a video for the customer, see Create a Flight Replay Video.
You can also start from a reservation. Open a completed flight in Reservations and click Show ADS-B on the map, or Open in Flights to jump to the full map.
Free tracks and the Flight Tracking add-on
Schools without the Flight Tracking add-on get a few free flight tracks a day, shared by the whole school. When you open a flight, the map shows how many free tracks are left today. Tracks you've already opened stay free, and the allowance resets the next day. Instructors without the add-on can load tracks for their own flights from the same allowance.
With the Flight Tracking add-on, tracks load for every flight, for every instructor and customer at your school. When the free tracks run out, admins see an Upgrade button in the message that appears.
Find aircraft in the air now
- Open Flights and click Live Flights. The button shows Scanning… while Sky Schedule checks your fleet.
- Aircraft that are flying appear at the top of the list with an In flight tag, above your completed flights.
- Click one to follow it on the map with its current position.
If nothing is airborne, you'll see No live flights. The Live flights button on the Overview map does the same thing there and needs the Flight Tracking add-on.
Tips
- Keep each aircraft's tail number exactly as registered. Tracks are matched by tail number.
- Enter airport codes under Route / Legs when completing a flight. A flight with no usable route doesn't look for a track.
Troubleshooting
- No track appears. The aircraft may not have been broadcasting ADS-B, the tail number may not match, or the flight has no route. Check the aircraft and the route on the flight.
- A message says you've used today's free flight tracks. Your school's daily allowance is spent. Tracks you already opened still load. Try again tomorrow, or add Flight Tracking.
- "Couldn't reach FlightAware." The tracking service didn't answer. Try again in a few minutes.
