Log a Squawk
For Admin, Office admin, Instructor, Student, Renter
A squawk is a write-up of something wrong with an aircraft, from a loose seat belt to a rough mag. Logging it in Sky Schedule puts it in front of your maintenance team, on the aircraft's record, and in the preflight check for the next flight.
Log a squawk from Maintenance
- Open Maintenance and go to the Squawks tab.
- Click Create Squawk. The Report a squawk window opens.
- Pick the Aircraft.
- Enter a short Title, such as Left mag rough on runup, and describe What happened: what you saw, when, and any readings or conditions.
- Choose a Category: Engine, Avionics, Airframe, Electrical, Cabin, or Other.
- Set the Priority: Low, Medium, High, or Critical.
- Set the Severity: Non-grounding (can still fly) or Grounding (can't fly until fixed).
- Enter the Tach when found if you have it.
- Drop in photos or video under Add photos or video.
- Click Report squawk.
Log a squawk after a flight
Open the completed reservation on the Schedule and click Add Squawk. You can also click Add Squawk inside the Complete Flight window. The aircraft is filled in for you.
Customers can log squawks this way on their own flights, or from Maintenance when their school gives them Can View Maintenance.
What happens next
- Admins get an email about the new squawk, and the Squawks tab shows a red mark for admins who haven't seen it yet.
- A grounding squawk puts a small red marker next to the tail number on the day schedule and makes the aircraft's preflight check a hold.
- A squawk doesn't block bookings on its own. To keep a grounded aircraft off the schedule, set it Unavailable or schedule maintenance. See Ground an Aircraft.
Work the squawk
Click the squawk in Squawks to open Squawk details. From there:
- Make Work Order turns it into a work order for the fix. See Create and Complete a Work Order.
- Mark Resolved closes it when no further work is needed.
- Edit changes the details. A squawk can be Open, Deferred, In progress, or Resolved. Deferred means written up but still OK to fly. A grounding squawk can't be deferred.
- Add notes with photos to keep a running history.
Tips
- One problem per squawk. It keeps work orders and history clean.
- Use Export Squawks on the Squawks tab for a list to hand to your mechanic.
Troubleshooting
- "Missing information." Pick the aircraft and a category, and add a title and what happened.
- "Photos didn't upload." The squawk saved, but the files didn't. Open it and add them in a note.
- I can't see Maintenance. Ask your school to turn on Can View Maintenance, or log it from your completed reservation.
